eBay photo rules

eBay photo requirements, minus the guesswork

What eBay actually asks for, read off its own help page: sizes, file types, how many photos, and the things that get a picture into trouble.

The rules

What the help page says

Read on each marketplace’s own help page on October 18, 2026. Marketplaces change their rules without telling anyone, so follow the link if it matters.

How manyAt least one picture, and up to 24.
SizeAt least 500 × 500 pixels. eBay recommends about 1600 × 1600.

File typesJPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, WEBP, HEIC or AVIF, 12MB each at most.

Where the studio helps

  • The eBay setup makes a square 2000 × 2000 JPEG on white: above eBay’s 1600 × 1600 recommendation, in the square shape it suggests.
  • It adds nothing to the picture: no badge, logo or watermark.
  • The item’s condition stays in the photo. Check the edges against your original before you download, and keep the close-ups of any flaws as they are.
