What the help page says

Read on each marketplace’s own help page on October 18, 2026. Marketplaces change their rules without telling anyone, so follow the link if it matters.

SizeEtsy recommends a width and height of at least 2000 pixels.
First photoAt least 635 pixels wide and tall, or it may show up lower in search.
File types.jpg, .gif, .png, .svg or .heic. Animated GIFs and transparent PNGs aren’t supported: transparent parts appear black.
File sizeImages over 1MB may not finish uploading, especially on a slow connection.
ColourEtsy converts images to sRGB. If colours look wrong on Etsy, convert to sRGB before uploading.
ShapeThe first photo should be landscape or square, and it sets the shape of the photos after it.
ThumbnailsEtsy crops thumbnails to square, portrait and landscape, so leave enough space around the item. Its tips suggest landscape photos over square crops.

  • Download a JPEG, or a PNG on a background. Skip the transparent PNG for Etsy: the see-through parts would show as black.
  • The Etsy setup is a 1600 × 1600 square with room around the item: above the 635 px minimum, under Etsy’s 2000 px recommendation. For 2000 px, choose Marketplace Large (2000 × 2000) or Landscape 4:3 (2000 × 1500) under export size.
  • If an upload stalls, set the file-size target to 1 MB before you download.
